You have just made a life changing decision. It is important to make sure a full understanding of faith is grasped in order to keep growing. The first thing to understand is that salvation is for everyone. Romans 3:23 says " for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." No one, no matter how hard they try, can live a life free of sin. Romans 6:23 says "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Jesus died on the cross taking the ultimate punishment for our sin. His resurrection three days later proves that our debt was sufficiently paid. Now salvation and forgiveness is freely offered to all who believe in Him. John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." Not only that but we also were given a helper the Holy Spirit who resides permanently with in us. The Holy Spirit teaches us God's word and empowers us to live a life according to it.
If you don't already have a Bible its important to find one. When looking for a "good" Bible its important to remember that if you don't understand it you wont read it. Pastor Ruben uses the New Living Testament and refers back to the King James Version. As a new Christian it would also be beneficial to get a devotional or guid. Pastor Ruben has many recommendations if you need one.
The journey of Faith can be challenging but one thing it is not is lonely. There is always people to turn to when you need it. As you start this journey find someone who shares your same beliefs. When you have questions or concerns you will be able to turn to a trusted friend for help. Another good option would be to find a small group Bible study. joining a small group allows you to learn from others. It can help you get a different perspective of God's word.
Baptism is the outward expression of the inward decision of faith. The word baptize means "to immerse in water." The action of being fully immersed in water demonstration being buried with Christ and coming out of the water represents Christ resurrection. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." We get baptized because Christ commanded us to (Matthew 28:19-20, to follow Christ example (Mark 1:9), and to demonstrate our belief (Acts 18:8).
